Choosing a model: Runway, Luma, Pika, and more
Learn how to choose the right AI model for text-to-video, image-to-video, short-form clips, visual style, speed, and quality.
Choose a model
Flikly supports multiple AI models and workflows. Runway, Luma, and Pika are common examples, but the best choice depends on your goal, settings, and what your plan makes available—not on a single default for every project.
What AI models do
AI video models generate or transform media based on your prompt, image, video input, settings, and selected workflow. They can turn text into motion, animate a still image, or support editing and repurposing flows inside Flikly.
Different models can be better for speed, realism, motion, image-to-video, stylized output, or experimentation. None of them guarantee identical results for every prompt.
How to choose the right model
Start with your goal
Decide whether you need a quick draft, a polished concept, or a final-quality clip.
Choose the workflow
Text-to-video, image-to-video, editing, or repurposing long content each suit different models and settings.
Balance speed, quality, and cost
Faster drafts can save credits while you explore ideas; higher-quality options may use more credits when you are ready.
Match the model to content style
Motion, realism, stylized looks, and prompt control vary between models.
Check what your plan supports
Available models and quality levels can depend on your Flikly plan.
Test with a shorter draft first
Try a shorter or lower-cost draft before spending more credits on higher-quality output.
Common model strengths
These are general patterns, not guarantees. Your results will still depend on prompt, settings, and provider behavior.
Runway
Useful for polished video generation and creative video workflows where available on your plan.
Luma
Useful for cinematic motion, visual realism, or image and video generation workflows where available.
Pika
Useful for fast short-form experimentation and creator-friendly video workflows where available.
Other available models
Useful when you need a specific style, format, image generation, text generation, or workflow supported by Flikly.
Model availability can depend on your plan, region, provider availability, and the workflow you are using.
Choosing by use case
Quick social draft
Prioritize: Speed and prompt experimentation; a shorter duration can help you iterate faster.
Cinematic product or video concept
Prioritize: Motion, visual quality, and style control; allow extra time for generation.
Image-to-video animation
Prioritize: Strong reference image, aspect ratio, and a model that supports image-to-video on your plan.
Repurposing long content into clips
Prioritize: Split workflows for finding moments, then refine clips in the editor or with other workflows your plan supports.
Prompt experimentation
Prioritize: Faster models or draft settings while you refine wording and creative direction.
Higher-quality final output
Prioritize: Quality settings, resolution, and duration; confirm your plan includes the workflow you need.
Settings that affect results
The model is only part of the outcome. These settings and inputs often matter as much as which provider you pick.
- Prompt detail — subject, action, setting, mood, and style
- Reference image or source media quality for image-to-video
- Aspect ratio for the destination platform
- Duration and resolution
- Style or motion instructions where the workflow supports them
- Captions or copy quality when generating text alongside video
Credits, speed, and quality
Some generation choices may use more credits than others. Higher quality, longer duration, or certain workflows can also take longer to complete—but timing varies and is not fixed for every model.
Credits are usage units for AI and related features, not minutes of video. The exact options you see can depend on your plan and the model you select.

Practical tips for better results
- Start with a clear objective for the clip.
- Mention subject, setting, action, mood, and style in your prompt.
- Keep prompts focused instead of listing too many ideas at once.
- Use image-to-video when you need consistency from a specific visual.
- Generate drafts before committing to a final version.
- Save prompts that work well for your brand or channel.
- Use Split when repurposing long videos into short-form clips.
For long-form repurposing, see Split longer videos into short clips.

Why is a model unavailable on my plan?
Why did one model produce better results than another?
Why is my generation taking longer than expected?
